Join the Explorers!

Explorers is the social recreation program from Community Connections, giving adults with IDD and/or ASD a chance to get a fresh perspective, develop social skills, and build new friendships.

Social recreation provides structured activities in small groups to enhance social skills and allow participants to build life-long friendships in real-life situations.

Learn more about the world around you. There is always something new to see and somewhere else to explore. Sharing the experience forms stronger bonds and creates lasting memories.

Let’s have fun and learn about each other!

Build Friendships with the Explorers

Community Connections staff provide a safe environment for participants to engage in friendship building with members of the group, among community partners, and the public.

By creating and planning activities in the community and bringing in local experts, the Explorers program staff guides communication, helps identify social cues, and offers suggestions on appropriate interactions.

The guidance from staff is woven naturally into activities and experiences. Through this process, participants gain skills and confidence in growing friendships.

Our goal is to help participants gain confidence in their ability to make friends by learning skills that enable them to develop friendships beyond the IDD/ASD community, including work, volunteering, and interactions with people in their everyday lives.
