Build friendships with the Explorers

Explorers is the social recreation program from Community Connections, giving adults with IDD and/or ASD a chance to get a fresh perspective, build social skills, and make new friends.

Through structured activities in small groups and with local experts, Community Connections staff provide a safe environment to enhance social skills and build friendships in real-life situations with other Explorers, among community partners, and the public.

Community Connections staff guide communication, help identify social cues, and offers suggestions on appropriate interactions.

The guidance from staff is woven naturally into activities and experiences. Through this process, the Explorers gain skills and confidence in growing friendships.

Explorers is a fee-based program

There is no public funding for this social recreation program. Community Connections pays for staff coordination and oversight of the activities and transportation from the meetup location.

You choose the activities that interest you. Activities range from $10 for evening entertainment at the Coffee House to $200 or more for a day trip, such as Nantucket that includes high-speed ferry, lunch, museum tickets, and staff support.

For all Explorers activities, transportation from your home to the meetup location is available at an additional cost.

As an Explorer, your goal is to gain confidence and learn skills to develop friendships beyond the IDD/ASD community, including at work, when volunteering, and with people in your everyday life.
